The idea

This protective miniature tent was modelled on an insect’s cocoon.

The objective

Cocoon is a lightweight, compressible inflatable tent with an integrated air mattress.

Design principle

Cocoon is a universal tent for travel, sport and emergency situations. Thanks to its pneumatic structure, it can be quickly set up by just one person using a hand pump or compressed air cartridge. Special air elements, so-called air beams, function as a structural framework.

Material

The outer skin of Cocoon, only 0.1 millimetre thick, is stretched between the partially transparent air beams. Consisting of a sturdy multi-layered, ultralight signal foil of polyurethane, it reflects body heat inwards while repelling cold outside air.
