The idea

Various forms of driving and flying can be experienced in an innovative motion simulator.

The objective

AirmotionRide has six axes and pneumatic muscles.

Technical data

  • Length: 176 cm
  • Width: 127 cm
  • Height: 166 cm
  • Degrees of freedom: 6

Operating principle

AirmotionRide enables aeroplane and helicopter flights, car drives, motor races and even roller coaster rides to be simulated. This is made possible by the intelligent interaction of pneumatic muscles, mechatronics and intelligent control and regulation technology.

Structure

AirmotionRide is designed as a hexapod structure. It comprises a platform mounted on a car seat and is suspended from three steel supports by means of pneumatic muscles.

Function

The geometric data are specified by the simulation programme in real time and are transferred to the axes by an interface application. The parameters for the pneumatic muscles can be calculated on this basis. Six valves implement the control variables in the form of pressure values, thereby initiating the desired movements.
