The idea

As part of the Bionics4Education project, the bionically inspired robotic flower conveys technical content; its biological models are the water lily and the mimosa.

The objective

The Bionic Flower is aimed at young people from the age of ten. Working and learning with bionics in this way is didactically prepared and takes an interdisciplinary approach.

Technical data

  • Control: via smartphone or tablet
  • Microcontroller: programmable
  • Sensors: opening and closing of the petals

Learning content

Youngsters learn about the working mechanisms of this bionically inspired flower, which sets out to generate enthusiasm, foster creativity and convey technical content in a playful way. The Bionic Flower contributes to STEM education in the subjects of (computer) science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Group work

Each Bionic Flower is suitable for teamwork with up to three people.

Skills

With its didactic combination of bionics and technical education, the Bionic Flower fosters competence in the so-called 4C model: collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity – essential skills for the working world of tomorrow.
