The idea

The flexible gripper is a further development of the BionicTripod from 2009.

The objective

The innovative feature of the BionicTripod 2.0 with FinGripper is the horizontal alignment of the system for optimised human-machine interaction.

Technical data

  • X-axis deflection: max. 140 cm
  • Y-axis deflection: max. 140 cm
  • Z-axis deflection: 27 cm
  • Material: glass fibre rods
  • Drives: linear axes, electric drives
  • Handling weight: max. 2500 g
  • Hand axis diameter: 12 cm
  • Hand axis length: 9.5 cm
  • Hand axis weight: 400 g
  • Deflection: max. 30°
  • Actuators: 3 bellows
  • Material: polyamide

Efficiency

The aim of this further development was to improve energy efficiency by reducing the moving masses. This was effected with electric linear drives, electric motors, pneumatic valves, sensor technology, and intelligent control and regulation technology.

Alignment

The BionicTripod 2.0 was rotated by 90 degrees and is thus horizontally aligned. Objects can now be picked up more easily from the work surface and put aside at a different height. This could be an advantage for flexible systems in the agricultural industry or in the sorting of materials.

Hand axis

In the hand axis, which is modelled on the human wrist, three actuators are arranged around a ball joint. They connect two platforms, enabling a deflection of up to 30 degrees when compressed air is applied.

FinGripper

The adaptable gripper comprises a pneumatic actuator in the form of a bellows and three gripper fingers designed as an adaptive Fin Ray structure.
