The idea

This flying object can take off like a bird without having to accelerate on the ground.

The objective

The object takes off from a standing position just like a kangaroo.

Technical data

  • Core element: pneumatic telescopic cylinder
  • Total weight of take-off shoe: < 30 kg

Operating principle

Birds normally only need a powerful kick with their legs in order to take off. For the Kangaroo flying object, a so-called pneumatic spike provides this initial impetus. The energy for take-off from a standing position is stored in the two-stage telescopic cylinder.

Technology

The force is transmitted to the corpus of the Kangaroo via a cardanic suspension. This process is completed after two seconds; the wings and motor then take over. Once the two telescopic stages are extended, the aircraft section moves at twelve metres per second while the take-off shoe remains on the ground. The drive power of this intelligent flight system was thus able to be used for both climb and cruise flight.
