The idea

The gripper demonstrates adaptation and can work very flexibly, just like a human hand.

The objective

The MultiChoiceGripper realises its potential in assistance robotics, assembly work and in production plants.

Technical data

  • Height: 215 mm
  • Diameter: 148 mm
  • Material: anodised aluminium; partly tool steel
  • Weight: min. 660 g, depending on finger elements
  • Robot arm: 6-axis articulated arm
  • Operating pressure: 8 bar

Equipment

The MultiChoiceGripper can work with two to six finger elements, which can be simply plugged in and pulled out. The available range comprises pickers with silicone fingertips, adaptive mechanical grippers with flexible silicone cheeks, and adaptive Fin Ray grippers of polyurethane that are suitable for use in the food industry and adapt to differently shaped objects thanks to their passive structure – without additional sensors or control technology.

Operating principle

As with the human hand, the finger elements of the adaptive gripper can grip either in parallel or centrically. They can be rotated to suit the particular task at hand, so that the MultiChoiceGripper can pick up almost any type of object.

Kinematics

The kinematics are controlled by a pull-push rod that transfers the force to the finger mountings. Once the gripping elements reach their final position, they are fixed in place pneumatically. The required compressed air lines are housed within the basic corpus. Each finger joint has an additional pneumatic microcylinder that provides movement.
