The idea

Robotino® XT is a further development of Robotino®, which had been introduced in 2006.

The objective

As a mobile robot application with a flexible gripper arm, Robotino® XT is designed as a learning system and research object.

Technical data

  • Diameter: 37 cm
  • Height: 26 cm
  • Weight: approx. 11 kg
  • Speed: max. 10 km/h
  • Infrared distance sensors: 9
  • Inductive sensor: 1
  • Optical sensors: 2
  • Manipulator height: 33 cm
  • Payload: 600 g
  • Degrees of freedom: 12

Learning system

The Robotino® learning system, which had already been well established in universities and vocational colleges, was extended to include a compact version of the Bionic Handling Assistant. The gripper arm is modelled on the elephant’s trunk.

Cooperation

The yielding nature of the gripper arm and the robot’s mobility open up new forms of interaction between humans and technology. The necessary safety is ensured at all times.

Low-pressure pneumatics

The kinematic trunk with adaptive gripper is designed as a lightweight arm. The robotics system is operated via two diaphragm pumps in the low-pressure range between 0.3 and 2.5 bar.

Modularity

Thanks to the robot’s modular design, the learning system deals with both the individual technical components and their overall behaviour as an integrated system.

Operation

The user controls the movements of Robotino® and steers the bionic gripper arm. The control board registers the input signals and transmits the set points to the valve terminal.
